JORDANTU

Leslie Jordan, Emmy-Award winning actor/comedian, well-known for his roles in “Will & Grace” and “Sordid Lives”, will perform in a special benefit concert for the QSpot LGBT Community Center on Saturday, November 7 at the Jersey Shore Arts Center. The event will be Jordan’s first appearance in New Jersey. Jordan recently made headlines after confronting a pair of assailants using anti-gay slurs while at his local West Hollywood Starbucks. Jordan began yelling “not in my house” while helping to lead the pair out of the establishment. The confrontation ended with police arriving to assist.

“We’re thrilled to have Leslie Jordan, an iconic entertainer and pioneer for LGBT rights, performing for the first time in New Jersey for QSpot,” said John Mikytuck, QSpot LGBT Community Center Executive Director. “His roles in some of the most beloved LGBT themed tv and film work have helped to shift the world’s perception of the LGBT community,” said Mikytuck. “While we celebrate the progress he and others helped to make over the last several decades – including most recently marriage equality, we’ve still got a long way to go, as the recent incident at the West Hollywood Starbucks reminded us. Until then, QSpot will provide a safe place where the LGBT community can socialize, access resources, and find support to live rich, full lives.”

The QSpot LGBT Community Center is one of NJ’s largest LGBT safe spaces providing services to the LGBT community without fear, prejudice or discrimination. QSpot’s new facility features over 2000 sq ft of public and private meeting space along with a coffee-house cafe called the Library Lounge. It is the only facility of its kind in Monmouth County, home of Asbury Park and Ocean Grove, an area with a large LGBT population.

QSpot’s mission is to foster the health, well-being and pride of NJ’s LGBT community including youth, seniors, and families, by providing support, education and referrals. Our programs include individual and group counseling, 12-step meetings, Buddy Program for LGBT Seniors, GLOW 50+ social events, and we’re home to a number of LGBT clubs, including the QSpot Book Club.

ABOUT QSPOT

QSpot was founded as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation on July 1, 2005. Joe D’Andrea, an Asbury Park resident, along with others, established the organization with the goal of opening an LGBT community center where services for residents could be provided. Tragically, within six months of founding the organization, D’Andrea suddenly died. Since then, QSpot has stayed true to its founder’s vision, using an all-volunteer, grass roots, community-based model, QSpot began offering programming to support the LGBT community over the last 8 years. On February 7th, 2015, QSpot moved into its newest home, a 2000 Sq ft facility that is a gathering spot for the LGBT community; a place where individuals, groups and families can come to be social, find support and grow without fear, prejudice or discrimination.
